A dissemination event focusing on seasonal drought forecasting and water management will take place on 27 November 2025 (09:15–16:30) at the Gustav Stresemann Institute, Bonn.
The event will present recent achievements and forecasting tools for proactive drought management, discuss lessons learnt and long-term operational continuity, and bring together scientists, users, service providers, regional agencies, international organizations (including WMO), donors, and other public and private stakeholders. Discussions will highlight how improved drought forecasting can support timely decision-making and climate-resilient water management.
Drought forecasting is essential for enabling proactive water-resource management and timely adaptation measures. This event showcases the latest developments from the OUTLAST and SPS-Blue Nile projects, highlighting practical pathways for drought forecasting and decision support. Through keynotes, live demonstrations, and stakeholder perspectives, the event will present operational systems, methods, and results, and explore their transferability and long-term application.
The event is co-organized by
Prof. Stefan Siebert (University of Göttingen) and
Prof. Harald Kunstmann (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology – Campus Alpin).
